IMG_8868St. Paul’s has joined a group of sixty-five other churches with diverse religious backgrounds in twenty-two states on a journey towards faith-based environmental stewardship and leadership.

In Genesis 2:15, we are instructed to “till and tend” the earth, to act as stewards and to safeguard the planet from destruction. How can we live up to the commandment to tend and to pass on the earth to the next generation? There are many things we can do now, within our congregation, communities, and homes, to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our natural resources. St. Paul’s partnership with GreenFaith allows our parish to become a leader in environmental justice and stewardship

GreenFaith is an interfaith coalition for the environment that was founded in 1992. GreenFaith works with houses of worship, religious schools and people of all faiths to help them become better environmental stewards. They believe in addressing environmental issues holistically, and are committed to being a one-stop shop for the resources and tools religious institutions need to engage environmental issues and become religious-environmental leaders.

GreenFaith’s mission is to inspire, educate and mobilize people of diverse religious backgrounds for environmental leadership.  Their work is based on beliefs shared by the world’s great religions – GreenFaith believes that protecting the earth is a religious value, and that environmental stewardship is a moral responsibility. Since 2014, St. Paul’s has taken tangible steps to improve our care of the environment, theological understanding, and advocate for environmental justice in our community and around the world.

We seek to protect Creation through positive change in the stewardship of St. Paul’s building and resources (energy and water consumption, recycling, etc.), Worship and Education, and Outreach/Advocacy. Action steps are designed to be no-cost, and often lead to big savings for the parish. GreenFaith allows us to foster interfaith and intergenerational relationships. We learn together to be better environmental stewards through activities, projects, and community events
