Social Justice Book Group

The reading for this week is an article by Gabe LePage, a graduate of Yale Divinity School and Yale School of the Environment, holding a Master of Divinity and a Master of Environmental Management. He has experience in urban forestry programs, urban agriculture, community gardening, and Asset-Based Community Development. Trained in systems thinking and participatory organizing techniques, he believes strongly in the ways that community-led green spaces and gardens build the social fabric of our neighborhoods, reduce isolation, and build trust for addressing larger systemic issues. Gabe will join us for a presentation and conversation in Huckabay Hall at 12:15 pm. All are welcome! To get a copy of the reading, please email Maureen Donnelly (madonnelly48@gmail.com).

Yoga in June

Join Therapeutic Yoga Educator, Jona Ellis, for this term practice designed for active adults to support your active lifestyle with greater comfort, clarity, and confidence. Through guided practices focused on mobility, balance, and meditation, you’ll explore how to move with more ease, improve stability, and reconnect with your body’s natural rhythm. This term practice is a thoughtful blend of therapeutic stretching and mindfulness, ideal for active adults who want to stay mobile, grounded, and in tune — without pushing through strain. You will need the physical mobility necessary to move comfortably from standing to floor level. Please bring your own yoga mat, a yoga strap or long scarf, and a blanket or large beach towel for each practice. Available in-person or replay—If you’re unable to attend a class, no problem—the class recording will be provided afterward, ensuring you won’t miss any of the weekly home practice.

Bridge Refugee Services Orientation for Community Assistance Team

This meeting is for those who would like more information about volunteering at Bridge Refugee Services and possibly serving on a CAT (Community Assistance Team). Community Assistance Teams partner with Bridge to supplement the work that case managers do with refugee individuals and families, to ensure that their practical needs are met.

Orientation will be on Sunday, June 1, in the Miller Conference Room after the second service, and will last about 1.5 hours.

A light lunch will be served. St. Paul's CAT will be paired with one refugee family and would include tasks like driving to appointments, helping with shopping and filling out forms, familiarizing them with the local area, helping with English, or just sharing a meal and providing some company: you can serve however and whenever you are able. All are invited! Coming to the meeting does not constitute a commitment on your part, but is just for informational purposes. If you then decide to be a part of the team, we'll put you on the list and get started!

For more information about what being a CAT volunteer involves, please see the Bridge website or contact Donna Ray at donnaeray629@gmail.com.
